Freedom House Church and Healing Centre

Back in the spring I read through the Gospel of Luke with the purpose of seeing everything that happened in houses.  WOW!  I was so encouraged and excited!  I have experienced some of these things in both my own house and other people’s houses.  I would like to take you on a journey through the Gospel of Luke and share with you the scriptures and the highlights of what happened in the houses.  Read the scriptures for yourself and be encouraged and get excited about what can happen in your house and others houses!

In Hebrews 2:11-12 Jesus calls those of us He has saved, brothers and sisters because we have the same Father.   Jesus tells our Father that whenever we gather together He will be in our midst praising Him and proclaiming His name to us. Think about that!  That is why we need to continue meeting together as the scriptures says in Hebrews 10:25.

So now Jesus and the ones He makes holy have the same Father. That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them His brothers and sisters.  For He said to God, “I will proclaim Your name to My brothers and sisters.  I will praise You among Your assembled people.” (Heb 2:11-12 NLT)

And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near. (Heb 10:25 NLT)

Now let’s start our journey through the Gospel of Luke:

Lk 1:39-45 In the house of Zacharias, Elizabeth is filled with the Holy Spirit when Mary greets her and John the Baptist leaps for joy in Elizabeth’s womb.

Lk 4:38-41 Simon’s mother in law is healed of a fever.  People brought the sick to Jesus and He laid His hands on every one of them and healed them and demons also came out of many.

Lk 5:17-26 Jesus forgives and heals a paralytic who was lowered down through the roof of a house because of the crowds.

Lk 5:27-32 Matthew gave Jesus a great feast in his house after Jesus calls him to follow Him.

Lk 7:1-10 The Centurion’s servant was healed in the house because of the Centurion’s faith that with the Word of Jesus, his servant would be healed.

Lk 7:36-50 A sinful woman is forgiven in a Pharisees house!

Lk 8:40-56 An only daughter of a ruler of the synagogue, named Jairus, was raised from the dead.

Lk 10:1-12 The sick are healed to demonstrate the Kingdom of God in people of peace houses.

This is one of my favorites!  Whenever you are invited to a person of peace’s house ask if anyone needs healing!

And heal the sick there, and say to them, ‘The kingdom of God has come near to you.’ (Lk 10:9)

Lk 10:38-42 When Jesus visits Mary and Martha’s house, Martha was distracted with much serving and Mary is sitting at Jesus’ feet hearing His word.  Martha approaches Jesus saying, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone?  Therefore tell her to help me.”  And Jesus answers her in this way, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things.  But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”  WOW!  What a lesson for us!

Lk 11:37-54 Jesus is invited to a Pharisee's house and quickly recognizes his wrong motives, hypocrisy and obsession with the law.  Jesus addresses these very clearly even calling Pharisees, “Foolish ones!” and proceeds to pronounce woes over them.  To me this a reminder that when we meet together in houses we are to speak the truth in love, confront religion, demonstrate the compassion and kindness of Christ towards one another and take care of one another’s needs.

Lk 14:1-4 A man is healed of dropsy in the house of one of the rulers of the Pharisees.

Lk 19:1-10 Jesus is invited to Zacchaeus’s house and salvation comes to his house.

Lk 22:7-23 Jesus eats the Passover meal with His disciples in the upper room of a house.

There’s more!  I receive the Simple Church Journal by Roger Thoman every month.  This month’s was titled “House to House-It’s That Simple”.  He writes about a simple document that is releasing the church in Northern Nigeria to catch fire in the midst of persecution.  The document is titled, “Where did the church meet?” and lists the scriptures and where the church met.  Again, it is astounding to read these scriptures and look at what happened in these houses!

Here are the scriptures.  I encourage you to write them out and look at not just where they met but what happened when they did meet.

Acts 2:46 NKJV So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart,

Acts 5:42 NKJV And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Acts 10:17-48 Cornelius invites Peter to his house to share the Word of God with him and his family and close friends.  As Peter is sharing the gospel, they are filled with Holy Spirit, speak in tongues and are baptized.

Acts 12:12 NKJV So, when he had considered this, he came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying.

Acts 32-34 NKJV (read vs 25-34) Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.  And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.  Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

Acts 16:40 NKJV So they went out of the prison and entered the house of Lydia; and when they had seen the brethren, they encouraged them and departed.

Acts 18:7 NKJV And he departed from there and entered the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.

Acts 20:20 NKJV how I kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house,

Ro 16:5 NKJV Likewise greet the church that is in their (Priscilla & Aquila’s) house.  Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia to Christ.

1 Co 16:19 NKJV The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Priscilla greet you heartily in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.

Col 4:15 NKJV Greet the brethren who are in Laodicea, and Nymphas and the church that is in his house.

I hope you are encouraged and excited.  It’s December which is a month of increased gatherings.  Whenever you meet in your house or someone else’s house, expect and allow Holy Spirit to work in and through you.  Greet one another.  Encourage one another.  Share testimonies.  Praise and worship God together.  Rejoice in His goodness, faithfulness and love.  Gather often, eat together, celebrate the Lord’s Supper together, pray for one another, forgive, teach and preach the gospel and see God confirm His word with signs and wonders!  Expect salvations, healings and freedom.  Baptize-if there is a bath tub you can do this. Be filled with the Holy Spirit.  Demonstrate the kingdom of God!

Invite one another over to your houses.  Invite people of peace over to your house.  Pray that you will be invited into homes to pray and share the good news about Jesus with them and see what God will do!  You will be encouraged!  You will be full of joy!  Now this is life in the Kingdom of God!

Amazing things happened in houses and continue to happen in houses.  My next blog is going to filled with stories and testimonies of what God is doing NOW in houses.

Oops... Previous comment cont'd Breaking bread and especially Having the Lord's supper together is so precious and such a privelige. Meeting in houses, you get to know so much more about your sisters and brothers. It's where we not only get encouraged but encourage others. It's where we share our short comings and struggles, and are given a peak into other's lives, and we recognize that we are all on this journey together. We care for one another, lift up those who are struggling and show them the right way to walk, if they are getting off track. It's truly a beautiful out pouring of love and we have the privelige of praising and worshipping the One who made it all possible. Let us remember who it's all about and why we gather in His name. It's always about furthering the Kingdom and honouring our King.
